the chart below shows the percentage of male and female teachers

The bar graph illustrates the percentage of male and female teachers across six types of educational institutions in the UK in 2010.

Overall, female teachers dominated in early education settings, while the proportion of male teachers steadily increased with the level of education. This trend was most pronounced at the university level, where men significantly outnumbered women.

In pre-schools and primary schools, women made up the overwhelming majority of teaching staff, accounting for approximately 95% and 93% respectively, while male representation was minimal at just 5% and 7%. In secondary education, although women still slightly outnumbered men, the gap was narrower, with around 55% female and 45% male teachers.

At the college level, gender representation was evenly split. In private training institutes, however, men became the majority, comprising about 58% of teaching staff compared to 42% women. The gender divide was most notable in universities, where male teachers represented roughly 70% of staff, while females accounted for only 30%.

In summary, the higher the educational level, the more male-dominated the teaching workforce became.
