The chart below shows the number of jobs in tourism related industries in one UK cities between 1989 and 2009.

This vertical bar chart compares the four travel sectors of the economy in terms of the number of jobs in a certain British urban area from 1989 to 2009.

In 1989, the city’s restaurants employed about 1100 employees. This figure increased significantly before reaching the peak at 1600 jobs in 2004. Despite a slight decline during the remainder of the period, it still maintained the highest labor productivity compared to other sectors. Hotels ranked second in employment for the entire period, except for 1994, when they had 1400 jobs and overtook the top position previously held by restaurants. After that, the number of hotel-related jobs gradually decreased to just over 1000 in 2009.

In the remaining sectors, sports and leisure as well as travel and tourism employed approximately 800 people between 1989 and 1994. Over the next decade, while sports and leisure jobs remained stable at around 800, travel and tour jobs plummeted to 600. At the end of the phase, the number of the former was almost twice that of the latter, with almost 700 and exactly 400 employees, respectively.

Overall, restaurant was the industry that created the most jobs among the four categories surveyed during this period. In addition, this sector has seen an upward trend, while the other two sectors have seen a marked decline over these two decades.
